Introduction of Industrial parks in Bohai Ring Area

As an important economic zone of north China, numerous state and province level of industrial parks have been built in Bohai ring area. In only 20 years times, with the booming of national economy, many industrial parks involve TEDA have been developed. These industrial parks contributed the great shares to accelerate the development of local economic.
According to Fusion Consulting, the industrial output total valued of USD 124.16 billion from North China, the total electronics production in North China accounts for 27% of China’s total output and is expected to grow to 29% by 2008.

A briefly introduction of these industrial parks will be given based on the different geographic of the regions.

Description: A modern high-tech zone
Main industrial sections: IT, bio-chemical and modern logistics
Beijing Tianzhu Airport Industrial Zone was founded in 1994, with a planned area of 6.6 square kilometers and 1 kilometers west to the Capital International Airport.
After near 10 years’ development and construction, a modern high-tech Zone has been formed with IT, bio-chemical and modern logistics as the major industries featured by foreign-oriented economy and based on high-tech enterprises.

Up-to-now, there are 284 foreign and domestic enterprises from 18 countries and regions have entered the Zone with a total investment of USD 2.4 billion.

The number of trans-national companies in the Zone is 60 such as Japan Sony, JVC, Panasonics, SMC, Printing Company; Sweden Ericsson, Electrolux, American United Technology, Fedex, French Airbus, Alston, German Rosenberg, Holland Philips, Korean LG etc.

Beijing OPTO-Mechatronics Industrial Park (OIP)www.bjoip.com.cn

Description: A modern manufacturing and OPTO-mechatronics centre
Main industrial sections: micro-electronics, photoelectron, digital-control machine tools, printing machinery, intelligent instruments and apparatuses, medical facilities, special purpose electronic facilities, laser technology and robots.

Beijing OPTO-mechatronics Industrial Park (OIP) was founded on July 23, 2001. In the economic situation analysis meeting by the government currently, OIP was confirmed to be one of the four huge industrial bases to be given top priority to support and development in flourishing Beijing Modern Manufacturing and extending the capital economic capacity, and also the core of Beijing OPTO-mechatronics industries and the important economic increasing point of Beijing modern manufacturing.

The planned area of OIP is 7.5 square kilometers and in which industrial land is 4.4 square kilometers. OIP mainly relies on high and new-technologies as economic growth point and wins support from reconstructing traditional industries. And OIP will give top priority to develop leading industries of micro-electronics, photoelectron, digital-control machine tools, printing machinery, intelligent instruments and apparatuses, medical facilities, special purpose electronic facilities, laser technology and robots.

Since its establishment, it has completed the first-phase infrastructure construction of 2 square kilometers and attracted 31 enterprises, such as the Korean Hyundai and BYD Ltd, Co. with the total contractual investment amount of nearly USD1.2 billion.

Description: State High-Tech Torch-Plan for Software Industry
Main industrial sections: petrochemicals, automotive components, metallurgy, machinery, electronics, information technology (IT), textiles and clothing, food processing, bio-tech, building and construction materials

Dalian Economic and Technical Development Area is the first economic and technical development area in China approved by the state council in September 1984. Dalian Development Area has a planned area of 210 square kilometers. At present, it has a developed area of 50 square kilometers and constructed area of 30 square kilometers with a population of 220000 and 5 districts under its jurisdiction.

The key industries involve petrochemicals, automotive components, metallurgy, machinery, electronics, information technology (IT), textiles and clothing, food processing, bio-tech, building and construction materials. By the end of 2002, the total GDP reached RMB 24.26 billion with the total number of import and export USD6 billion. The development zone had attracted 1581 foreign companies, with the input foreign capital totaling USD8.6 billion.

Description: new electronic, heavy and chemical industrial base
Main industrial sections: modern ports, heavy chemical industry, electronics and home electrical appliances, biological pharmacy, international trade and tourism

Established in 1984, Qindao Economic & Technological Development Zone is one of the 14 State-level economic and technological development zones in China. It covers 220 sqkm, with a population of 300,000.

It is a new electronic, heavy and chemical industrial base in Qingdao. The key fields to be developed are modern ports, heavy chemical industry, electronics and home electrical appliances, biological pharmacy, international trade and tourism. By the end of 2001, this development zone had attracted 1,630 foreign companies from 53 counties and areas, with the input foreign capital totaling USD8.5 billion. It will carry out the "Four Developing Strategies" e.g. Economy Internationalization, New Area Urban, Hi-tech Technology Industrialization and Combination the Port and the Area characterized by household appliance and electronics industry, petrochemical industry, automobile, container, shipbuilding industry and special steel industry.

The enterprises who listed in the "Global Top 500" such as Federal Mogual, United Alcoa from USA, Forum from Finland, P&O from UK, Rohodia from France, Electronics from Sweden, Panasonic, Itochu, Sumitomo, Marubeni, Nisshoiwai and Mitsubishi etc from Japan already set up their plants in QDA.

Shenyang Economic and Technological Development Zone (www.seda.gov.cn )

Description: new industrial base of machinery manufacture
Main industrial sections: machine, automobile, chemicals, food, and pharmaceuticals

Shenyang Economic and Technological Development Zone was approved as state-level development zone in April 1993. It now has a developed area of 8.7 square kilometers.

Through 14 years of development, there are 1347 high and new technology or advanced enterprises from 83 countries and regions have been built and put into production in Shenyang Development Zone. The five industries of machine, automobile, chemicals, food, and pharmaceuticals have taken modest shape and account for over 80 percent of the Zone's total industrial output. It is featured as new industrial base of machinery manufacture.

Superior regional location and continually perfecting investment environment have attracted some of the 500 top enterprises that have great share in international market and those with famous brand products, including: Coca Cola, BASF, Novo Nordisk, Liebherr, Michelin, Alcatel, ITT, HITACHI, Panasonic, TOYOTA, Mitsubishi, Bridgestone, NISSAN, ITOCIHU, Hyundai, ABB, SANYO, HINO, MITSI, Johnson, etc.

Qinhuangdao Economic & Technological Development Zone (QETDZ) (www.qetdz.com.cn)

Description: IT and high-technology development base
Main industrial sections: cereal, oil and food processing, metal rolling manufacturing, automobile-accessories, glass building material, large equipment manufacturing

Qinhuangdao Economic & Technological Development Zone was established in October 1984 with the approval of the State Council of China.

By the end of 2003, the number of approved projects reached 3380, in which 561 projects are foreign investment, with a total investment of USD3.512 billion. The total amount of contracted foreign capital was USD2.329 billion, and the actual value of foreign investment was USD1.029 billion. The domestic investment projects were 2819 with an investment of USD 1.16 billion.

QETDZ, forming a 5-backbone industrial area with cereal, oil and food processing, metal rolling manufacturing, automobile-accessories, glass building material, large equipment manufacturing, has become a most important region in Qinhuangdao for foreign investment. It has become the IT and high-technology development base of Qinhuangdao.

Enterprises from more than 30 counties and regions including US, Germany, South Korea, etc. have established projects, such as Itochu, Asahi from Japan, LG, CASTEC from S.
